Could Your Pain Stem from Early Gum Disease?

Most of the symptoms that accompany the early stages of gum disease are totally painless. However, once the disease begins to progress, pain and discomfort does come into play. Do you have discomfort in your mouth that you may not be able to explain otherwise? If so, then you need to come into our office and let us have a look. The sooner we catch gum disease, the easier it is to treat. Symptoms of Early Gum DiseaseThe first symptom that most people notice is that their gums begin to bleed when they have early stage gum disease. However, that is not usually the first symptom. The first symptom is easy to overlook. It is a slight swelling of your gum tissue around affected teeth. Some of the gums may be a darker pink than normal, but they will feel a bit puffy instead of being tight against your teeth. Then, you will usually get bleeding gums. From there, the gum tissue begins to recede, which is usually where the discomfort comes in. If you can get in and see us prior to gum recession, we can typically fix the problem with just a few treatments. However, if you leave the issue to get worse, we will have you go and see a specialist in gum issues known as a periodontist. If you have started to notice that your gums are painful or even slightly uncomfortable, then give us a call. If we get in right as the problem is starting, the fix is relatively simple. Once we treat it, it can be something that is easy for you to maintain as well. When gum disease is left to progress, it can lead to a wide range of problems from mouth pain to receded gums and even tooth loss.
