|We know you have been hearing a lot about flossing lately. We understand. It's just we're a little passionate about flossing, because it does so much good for your teeth.
If you are flossing twice a day, every day, you are really out there fighting in the trenches with your teeth, helping them to win the war against tooth decay. We know we're being a bit dramatic, but darn it, teeth are important.
With that being said, there are some common mistakes you can make with your teeth that we would not want to see you make. Not sure how you could possibly mess up flossing? We have some tips to make sure your flossing is perfect every day.
Common Flossing MistakesFirst, be sure you are only flossing twice a day. As crazy as it sounds, there are folks who floss up to five times a day. That is not good for your teeth. Over time, you may actually be doing more harm than good. You may be irritating your gums rather than helping them. Floss twice a day: once in the morning, and once at night.
Second, be sure you are being slow and deliberate when you floss. If you are flossing quickly in order to get done, you may cut your gums. You could also irritate your gums, causing them to swell and bleed.
Third, be sure that you are flossing both sides of the teeth. You need to make sure you are getting in between both teeth and along the sides of both teeth in order to get out plaque and food particles.
Finally, don't quit if you see bleeding gums, especially if you just recently started flossing. Think of your gums as a muscle. The first time you exercise a muscle, it is bound to hurt. However, with practice, your muscles hurt less and less. It is the same with bleeding gums. If you floss twice a day, every day, your gums will bleed less frequently.
