If Your Wisdom Teeth Erupt Normally, Should You Keep Them?

If Your Wisdom Teeth Erupt Normally, Should You Keep Them? Many people are scared of wisdom tooth removal because it may be the first serious dental operation they have gone through.

In most circumstances, wisdom teeth removal is a simple procedure where the teeth are removed by either pulling or a small incision in the gum. Afterwards, the gums will heal over time and your mouth will be back to normal, and even healthier, in a few weeks.

It is not always common, but it is possible that some people will not need their wisdom teeth removed. This may sound like a relief to many, but the amount of people whose wisdom teeth come in without needing to be removed is very low. There are many complications that can occur when wisdom teeth are starting to come in, and that is why most people need them removed.

Circumstances Where Wisdom Teeth Can Be Kept

If your wisdom teeth erupt normally, it may be the first sign that you may be able to keep them. However, besides normal eruption, wisdom teeth also need specific oral circumstances to be just right, to be kept safely, otherwise many dental problems can be created in the future. The first condition that must be met is that the gum is healthy and not infected when the wisdom teeth are erupting.

Because the wisdom teeth have to break through gum tissue, bad conditions in the mouth can cause the open tissue to become infected. In this case, your teeth will need to be removed. The second condition that needs to be met is that there is not any overcrowding in your mouth.

Overcrowding is exactly what it sounds like, too many teeth in the mouth. When wisdom teeth come in and your mouth is too full, they can push your other teeth around causing them to shift which can negatively affect your bite. Your wisdom teeth will need to be removed if this is likely to happen.
