|A filling is what our dentist uses to replace tooth structure that has been destroyed by decay. Fillings can last up to 15 years and they protect the surrounding structure of your teeth. However, after some time they will need to be replaced. Not replacing a filling in your tooth can and usually does lead to more serious issues if not taken care of.
You Can Feel It
You will most likely be able to feel when you need a new filling replacement if you pay attention to any physical symptoms you may be having. One of the first signs that fillings need replacing is tooth sensitivity – to pressure, temperature, sweets.
There may be some instances where you could feel or notice a pressure when you are eating. When you detect any pressure when you bite down on food if the sensation lasts for a few seconds or longer. If you chew slowly when biting down, in most cases this will help to narrow done just exactly where the problem of the lost filling is.
Pain Can Show It Too
If you are detecting any sharp or throbbing pain and also the pressure in the tooth when you are eating food or drinking and if the pain comes and goes rather quickly. Try to notice if you have any sharpness or throbbing in a specific tooth. If you are feeling the winter cold and air it can also make your teeth more sensitive than they usually are.
When you are experiencing a constant toothache, this could be the cause of a loose filling because there is inflammation in the pulp of the tooth. If the pain persists too long, even more pulp can develop which could lead to necrosis where there is no pus involved or eventually an abscess.
