Decreasing Daily Stress Could Help Prevent Tooth PainStress can affect your body in many different ways, but did you know it can cause tooth pain? While stress doesn't directly make your teeth hurt, it can lead to bruxism. This condition makes you clench your jaw and grind your teeth at night. Many people who suffer from bruxism don't even realize they have it. Instead, they find themselves waking up with a sore jaw and tooth pain but don't know the cause. If that matches symptoms you've had, you need to start looking at ways to handle your stress.

Managing Stress Is the Only Way to Deal with Bruxism

Bruxism can be caused by several different conditions, but the most common one is stress. If you haven't been diagnosed with one of the other conditions, you'll need to start working on your stress level. The best way of making certain you're not experiencing bruxism is to directly deal with the source of your stress. However, that's not always easy to do. You may recognize that your stress is going to last for quite some time or that you simply have no control over the source of it. If that's the case, the best thing you can do is start looking at ways to reduce your stress. Fortunately, there are a few options.

How to Decrease Stress

There are some classic ways of handling stress. Some people meditate. Others engage in a hobby such as yoga or tai chi. For some, playing sports, video games, or reading helps them unwind. Depending on the source of your stress, you may find that going to therapy is a good option. Whatever you do, make sure it's a healthy way of coping. Also be sure to call us and make an appointment to talk about your bruxism. It could have done damage to your teeth that you were unaware of.
